10 Questions About Your Working Life to Help you Reflect

Have you ever wondered how many people are truly satisfied with their job? According to a Gallup poll and other recent surveys, only around 30% of workers in North America are engaged or satisfied with their current position.

Despite these numbers, it is possible for everyone to discover their individual strengths, tap into their passions – and get paid for them.

So, are you happy with your current work situation? Do you feel trapped by your own success? Or, do you want an exit but don’t quite know where to start

Here are ten questions that are useful to reflect on your current situation. Use them to help you step back from your job and think about the bigger picture of your working life –  where you are and where you want to be.

  1. What are your 3 best and worst work experiences (project, team, role, activity, etc.)?
  2. What are 3 essential elements of your work (what you need in order to be happy)?
  3. Are there any elements of a job that you simply cannot accept (job killers, if you will)?
  4. What skills, talents, and hobbies would you like to have or develop?
  5. What are your passions, in and out of work?
  6. If you had no fear of failure, what would you do?
  7. What is in the way of you having your ideal career?
  8. Have you stopped chasing your ideal career? Why?
  9. What did you want to be as a child? Explore whether that is an option, or if you still want some element of that career.
  10. List 12 experiences/ skills/ activities/jobs you would like to have in this lifetime but haven’t yet done.

These questions are for you and you alone, so answer honestly. This way, you will come to understand your own motivations and goals better.
