Jordan Sztern, Finance Consultant

Jordan Sztern I joined MPI in September '08. As a youth, i was fortunate enough to have been able to travel around the world and pursue my education in the United States on a basketball scholarship. This diversity allowed me to gain insights on many different cultures around the world and it has taught me to understand a lot about different people. I settled back home after graduating from University in Florida with a degree in Business Management/Finance, and then i pursued a career in Finance. I realized that my passion for finance was undeniable, and it had to be a part of my future. When i met with Michael Page, and realized the opportunity i had in front of me, i could not let it pass me by. Working for a new office, in my home town, in the Banking and Finance team was the perfect fit for me and it has allowed me to continue working within the industry i am passionate about, from a different perspective.

Question: What attracted you to a career in recruitment, Michael Page in particular?

Answer: Actually, i met with a consultant from Michael Page in order to help me find a new job. After the interview, they asked me if i would consider working with them as a consultant. I learned more about the responsibilities of the role and found that i possessed the characteristics or traits to be successful, such as, being goal-oriented, motivated, passionate, persistent, resilient, and having great listening skills. After learning what it took to be successful in a career in recruitment, Michael Page seemed like the only place to go which would satisfy my expectations for my career. Michel Page provides an exceptional working environment and culture to keep you motivated to succeed. Also, the dedicated professionals and the incentives they provide in order to help each person reach their full potential, it was a no-brainer to come and work for the most recognized recruitment firm on an international level! I could not have been offered a better opportunity than to be apart of a winning team.

Q: What is the range of clients like that you deal with?

A: The clients I deal with are all focused within Banking & Finance and they range from some of the largest banks to some smaller financial institutions. Most of my clients are Investment banks and Hedge Funds, but i also deal with Retail banks and Asset Management firms as well. The clients i deal with range in size from having thousands of employees, to having only a two person shop. Everyone needs to hire people, regardless of the size of the firm.

Q: What would you like to achieve in the next 5 years?

A: Well, I was very fortunate to be a part of the Michael Page team at the very start of its new Montreal office. In the next 5 years, my goal is to help Build the Montreal office into an even more successful team and build its brand awareness in all of North America. The city of Montreal is one of the most dynamic and vibrant cities in the world, and to help in the expansion of our team within Montreal and all of Canada is a top priority. The expansion of new groups with new industries to focus on will be a goal i am very excited to take part in. On a personal level, my goals are to continue learning about the business and achieving new levels of responsibility within the organization. I would like to take on the role of a manager one day, and even a director (but obviously not replacing the current bosses.. :) )

Q: How important is it to turn challenges into opportunities at Michael Page? Can you give a couple of examples of when this happened?

A: Its is probably the most important ability to have at Michael Page. In this environment, you need to be able to face a challenge, and not only overcome it, but somehow transform it into something positive that can help you. Michael Page provides a platform for every person in the company to succeed and achieve their goals. A perfect example of this can be seen in the growth and resilience of our Montreal office. The office opened up in Jan '08 with no experience in the local market, and no recognizable brand name. Through the dedication and persistence of the consultants in Montreal, we built a solid network and a prestigious name within the local market. The Montreal team faced a challenge of survival in Montreal market, and instead of fizzling away over time, we have built a solid foundation upon which we will continue to grow and expand in the marketplace.
